Description:

At Ampcontrol we take pride in leading the way and setting the standard. Our Mining Systems and Power Distribution Projects operation manufacture a range of explosion protected and non explosion protected electrical equipment for underground, longwall, open cut coal mining and energy authority applications. These products include intrinsically safe application through to 66kV substation and incorporate a range of Ampcontrol manufactured components into complete turnkey electrical systems.

As a Safety Systems Engineer you will perform a critical technical leadership role being responsible for Functional Safety Systems and Design Risk Management. Some of key functions include:

  • Process Owner for the Functional Safety Management lifecycle
  • Leading, documenting and facilitating Functional Safety assessments including Safety Integrity Level (SIL) assignment and Design
  • Risk management using formal tools (DFMEA, FTA)
  • Participate in the architectural design of Functional Safety Systems for incorporation into a range of custom and OEM products
  • Define and perform calculations required to verify safety integrity levels and system reliability
  • Define and monitor implementation of Functional Safety System software activities.

The major challenges for this role are to develop internal relationships between engineering, project and product manager personnel being both an influencer and technically respected member of the team.

You will also need to develop external relationships with clients to produce a mutually beneficial ongoing relationship and establish a profile as a leader for functional safety and design risk management in the electrical systems area.

Your success in this key role will be dependant on:

  • Holding Safety as a core value
  • Possession of Electrical Engineering qualifications
  • Demonstrated Design experience in heavy industrial, power utility or mining environment
  • Ability to provide leadership in auditing, design risk assessment, DFMEA or HAZOP in a product design/manufacturing environment
  • Application of standards AS4024, AS61508, AS62061 in industrial, manufacturing and mining  environments.

Possession of externally recognised Functional Safety Engineering certification or direct experience in design and development of safety related systems would be advantageous.
